I was cought shoplifting, the store had me sign a promissory note and im a minor i was wondering if it is legal to have a minor sign a promissory note?
Also when they cought me they didnt tell me who they were or who they were working for, they threatened me by saying "if you move your done" then one of the workers told me not to rat on my friend who happened to get away he also told me not to tell his boss that he said that because he "could get fired." later they told me that they had been watching me do this for about 2 months and let me get away with it..i was wondering if it is legal to do that..let someone get away with the crime and then just pick a day to stop them, they are only charging me for the one time though.

In the united states if your a minor you cant be held liable to a contract. But that doesnt mean its the end of the issue, your parents can be
sued.

You need to talk to your parents first. They may then need to talk with a lawyer. I will not get into what I would do to you if you were my child. But you really need to talk with your parents.

Why did you post in the 'Auto Accidents and Vehicle Claims' forum?

It's not illegal for them to choose the day that they caught you. They may not have been certain before and just wanted to be sure you were shoplifting. When they were sure then they stopped you. You need to tell your parents, if you don't I'm sure they will.

What did the promissory note state?
