What is the name of your state?I live in Massachusetts. On Friday I was busted buying alcohol for minors in the liquor store parking lot by some guys that said they were from the alcohol bureau or something like that. I was not technically arrested, i.e. handcuffed and processed. But they did take my address and information and told me I'd be recieving a summons in the mail to appear in court. They told me since this is my first offense of any kind I should not get a lawyer and I should just show up and throw myself at the mercy of the court and I would most likely get a continuance with a finding. My question is, should I get a lawyer or not? Will it just be wasted money since my guilt is already a foregone conclusion?

Was that Tobacco Alcohol and Firearms (TAF) that you are referriing to "alcohol bureau"? I gave myself a good jolly laugh when u said "alcohol bureau".

ATF...I couldn't really tell you, they didn't tell that to me, they told it to one of the guys I was buying it for. One of them called the guy 'officer' and he said he wasn't a cop, but he was from something like that.

Sounds a little funny to me. If you would get a summons then worry about a lawyer. Just remember that a law enforcment agent of any type needs to properly identify himself. Also why would you give out information to some guy in a parking lot without knowing who he is?
