What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? HI and CO

I relocated my family to Hawaii from Colorado last year. My wife and I are now allowing our 17 year old son (turns 18 in September) to move back to CO to live with a trusted family so he can graduate high school with his friends and the class he came up with. I will be purchasing a car for him to have in Colorado in the next few weeks. I am thinking that the car should be registered in his name and he should have his own policy, but I am not certain. Maybe I can just add the car to my existing policy? What is the best solution?

The car is going to need a separate policy because it will be located in a different state than your current vehicles.

Caution ...you didn't ask...but you just might trigger need to pay tuition at that CO high school.

Have you researched whether or not a 17 year old can register a car in his own name in CO?

Call your insurance company and ask them the best way to set it up. Since he'll be a minor, you probably will at least want both your names on the car and the policy.

What kind of driver is he? I know it's hard to tell when you're not around but does he like to go fast, take risks in general?
