can an employee be required to bring in a docters note after only missing 1 day?

Becca, you're thinking of individual companys' policies, not the law.

jr, yes you can be required to bring in a doctor's note even if you are only absent for one day unless you are on intermittent FMLA leave and have previously provided the appropriate medical certification to your employer.
