OK, I cut off part of my right thumb wile useing the meat slicer at work. It's only about 1/4 inch, but still it did scrape bone, and hurt. I was off for two days, becaues of it. The thing is I would never have hurt my self if they had replaced the side slicer push handel two years ago. I warned them some one would get hurt but they didn't want to spend the money on what they considered a useless exspence.
They are paying all my medicel exsenes. But I still am out two days pay. I was wondering if there is any thing I can do?
All I would like is the two days pay, and for them to fix that thing befor some really gets hurt on it. Can some one please help me. Thank you.

why are you out 2 days pay? was the cut that bad? also the slicer that was used to cut meat, your hand should be nowhere near the blade except when cleaning the machine then you are supposed to unplug it ti clean it so you don't turn it on....

The side push gard has been broken off the slicer for two years now. In order to move the meat back and fourth I have to push it with my hand. The only other way is to rest my hand on top of the meat to push it back and forth. Our slicer does not have a automatic seting. The company rifuses to buy them like that. I asked.
And yes the cut is that bad. It took off the top part of my thumb.

cut being bad, makes sense...
if they would'nt fix it for 2 years why did'nt you refuse to use the slicer?

Easy said, hard done. I work at a low end, warm body job. If I had rufused to use the slicer, they would have replaced me with anther warm body who would use it at is, and then found away to get rid of me for makeing a fuss about it. To make it worse they would have done it in a way that would keep me from geting unemployment. Anther job did that to me befor, long story, lets just say there was nothing I could do about it. And it was all legal, for them.

Blaze,

Workers' compensation has a waiting period before benefits are paid for any lost workdays . In Indiana, you have to be off work more than 7 calendar days before you receive pay for missed workdays. You were off less than 8 days so workers' comp doesn't have to pay you for the 2 days missed due to your injury.

If unsafe working conditions exist, you can contact OSHA and file an anonymous complaint. The missing handle is probably not the only unsafe condition so call and provide them with as many unsafe conditions you see. (If you just give them the one concerning the slicer handle, it will be obvious as to who contacted OSHA).

You should contact OSHA. They will fill out your complaint and check on the working conditions of your employer. Don't delay as this needs to be done ASAP, if for no other reason then to protect the other employees from any harm.
