What is the name of your state? Illinois.

I have a question regarding the ability of landlords to charge differing fees for the same type of apartment. I went to view a 2 bdrm apt. today and was informed that the model presented to me ranged from $875 - $1100. I asked why, thinking that there was a difference in square footage, amenities, or that the more expensive models had extra perks. The landlord stated that all the apartments were exactly alike and that it was a supply/demand issue. The reasoning given to me was that the less of these models available the higher the rent they could charge. I found this very strange and want to know if this is a legal practice in the city of Chicago.

Unless there is a state/county/ law prohibiting this, of course it's legal.

Ahoy Who's... That is what he is ASKING!

Looks like tis legal.
I did a little research and can find no chicago rent restrictions... found a bit too much information I did not want to know about rent control.
But as I read... it does seem like supply and demand does go for rental units as well. As long as it is not in a deemed section... Chicago BIG place.
Original Poster... do a bit of research on the net for the place you are looking at... specific location.
