What is the name of your state? Indiana Does SS pay a percentage of college tuition?? Does the student have to carry a C average in High School in order for them to qualify?

When you turn 18 , the qualifications for SSI change to Adult Status , and depending on the disability , you may or may not still qualify for SSI under the Adult Status .

There are Federal Government programs you may be eligible for such as Vocational rehabilitation , which most likely would cover college tuition , and maybe some extra .

Call SSAs 800 toll free number and inquire , or your Parent could , as they would be your payee , or talk to your schools' physiologist or guidance councilors office .

My son is 17 and a senior in high school, he lives with his father who is on disability. His father gets money for our son now monthly. Father told us that since he was on disability that our son would be able to go to college almost free (too bad it's not really free). He is pushing him to go but hangs a list of to do's and what not to do's over his head or he won't be able to go. If our son moves back to Michigan with me the disability that our son gets from father being disable will come to Michigan. But will he still qualify for any type of college help?

At 18 or when the son graduates from high school , He will no longer be eligible for benefits from a Parents disability from SSDI .

If the child's' father is a veteran , the Child may be able to go to college under that status basically free , but If Dad were a vet , He would be receiving those benefits instead of SSDI .

I'm not sure where you get your son can go to college basically free from Dads SSDI .

Thank you for your help. I am not getting that my son can go to college for free at all. This is my x's line of ____ that he is telling our son. I don't believe it for a minute. I don't get the full details from dad either. There is no free in this world anymore and it will do my son good to have to pay for his own college. Dad uses this line to have control over our son to do or not to do things that he wants him to do.

Since BL brought up vetern.. if by chance the ex is disabled because of war and has received a purple heart, they pay quite a bit. I don't know the details on it but I know my sister got X amount of money for college every term.

My older brother started college but dropped out , and as far as I know it was totally covered at the time under my Fathers VA. Benefits , and yes He earned a Purple Heart among others .

I honored him on the WW11 memorial web site .

Also , He should be eligible for grants and loans anyways , so as not to totally have to pay .
