Am I obliged to give my social secuirty number to doctors when making appointments etc. The doctors tell me that the last 4 didgits or my drivers license are not enough, they MUST have the
ss #. Is it legal for a doctor's office to refuse me {us citizen} service if I refuse to disclose my complete ss#.

Many doctors use SSN for tracking patients and checking insurance. I think they request is legitimate even if it is uncomfortable for you to give out your SSN. If you feel so uncomfortable about giving out you SSN over the phone, go in to the office and make your appointment. Good luck!
