I received a speeding ticket for 44 in a 30. I have had no tickets or violations in over 10 years. The officers were on a side street in a residential and highly traveled road at the bottom of a small hill. The officer said that my left bumper was tagged with laser at 44 mph. He also stated the laser was 70%. I am not sure what that means. I don't know my actual speed although I don't believe I was driving 44. There was another car in front of me that was also pulled over. The officer said the other driver was going 45mph. It took me several seconds before I even came to stop behind that car. Which leads me to believe my speed could not have been the same as the driver in front of me. There were two officers writing tickets at one time. I have never been to traffic court and do not know what to plead. I feel as if this ticket is undeserved and I am worried of the implication of points on my license or insurance repercussions. Any advice would be immensley appreciated.

Plead not guilty at your court date. You will then have some time to gather evidence and plan your defense. There are several good websites that offer advice for fighting a speeding ticket. Your local library should also have a few books detailing strategies you can use. Did the officer happen to mention how far away you were when the laser "tagged" your speed?

Thank you for responding, that is the clearest info I have received so far. The officer did not mention how far but it does say 10.5 written in a box on the ticket under Visibility. Is there a way to ask for a reduction or a non moving violations charge instead. I don't have a problem paying a fine to just get this done with. I am mostly worried about points. Also I was not able to pay a fine before the court date. I am required to attend. Thanks!

Speeding Tickets 14 MPH or less over the limit in Georgia will cause you nothing but a fine. There will be no points issued to your license and your insurance company will never know. This is a little known secret in Georgia. Just pay the fine and move on.

Only a ticket that is dismissed in court by the Judge will not go on your record.
For speeding offenses, you can come to court and request a “Speed Reduction”. This is granted by the Judge and it involves the Judge reducing your alleged speed to 14mph over the posted speed limit. A speeding offense that is 14mph (or less) over the speed limit does not get reported to the Department of Motor Vehicle Safety and therefore does not go on your record. Speed reductions are granted at the discretion of the Judge
