Spousal support awarded in protective order

On July 23, I was awarded spousal support in a protective order in the state of Utah. I have not received any money from him so far. If my husband fails to pay it, what are my options? Can I have him charged with contempt of court? If so, how do I go about doing this? Is garnishing his wages an option? Can I do this without an attorney? Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I try not to take people who take themselves as serious as IAAL does to heart. He's just too full of himself and doesn't display any human compassion or understanding, especially in areas he is so totally ignorant about. He seems to use his own fear and shortcommings to incite others and sway them to his way of thinking. I pity him and others like him Thanks for your post. It made my day! Godspeed!

Get an IDO

You should get the judge to issue an IDO (income deduction order) and send it to his employer. By law, the employer must pay the states "Central Depository" or, whatever, they call it in your state, and they send you the money. I WOULD NOT HESITATE TO DO THIS, yes, you can collect arrearage, however, he might try to argue you really didn't need the money and you were complacent therefore with trying to get it. This might not work, but, you never know with judges. If you are a DV (domestic violence) victim, have the women's shelter help you with filing the necessary paperwork. Good luck.

By the way, I pay my ex-wife by an IDO, no DV was involved and she was cheating on me leading to divorce, but, my income was X3 hers at the time of divorce. The IDO always gets her the money.
