I have heard by rumor of a new state law in CA (in the last 2 or 3 years) that spousal support only needs to be paid for half of the years of the terminated marriage. I would like to know the actual facts relating to this condition.

'Sounds doubtful to me. We have been in litigation for over 2 years to modify spousal support for my husband's ex. Their marriage was 16 years, he has paid for 15 years and we had one heck of a time getting an order to stop the payments. As it is the court ourder issued in March 2001 still requires us to pay for an additional 3 years (and belive me, we are not rich!) I am no attorney but, after going through this I would have to say that 1)if her story is good enough and sad enough and if the judge buys it, there are no guarantees (regardless of how true it is) and 2)if she finds an attorney that can stall long enough, the legal bills alone will kill you. 'sorry to be so negative but the old saw that divorce law is biased toward the husband is a myth!
