What is the name of your state? nj

My friend plans to file for bankruptcy in NJ. Does his wife have to file, too?

No, she doesn't have to file but, if they have joint accounts that are included in his bk, the creditors can then come after his wife.

Duration of Bankruptcy proceedings

NJ:

How much time will it take after filling (assuming all documents and requirements are filed on time)?

Thanks.

Well, they try and schedule the 341 meeting of creditors within 30 days of the filing date. Creditors have 60 days from the 341 meeting to object {the vast majority don't} and he should be discharged at some point after that 60 day period. Figure 90 to 120 days depending on the court and trustee schedule.
