What is the name of your state? MD

Hello:

I'm certainly posting a lot of questions today.... Anyway, I was reading some other posts and came across a few in regard to SR-22. What exactly is this form, and do all who have a DUI (PBJ first offense for myself) fill out such a form for insurance purposes? Is it required if at the MVA hearing you're given a restricted license? If so, what impact does this have on a persons insurance in general (mind you, my current insurance is at an all time low due to a clean driving record prior to the DUI of course). Is a SR-22 a requirement to get a license back once the suspension time is over? I thought the entire DUI situation is not public (and insurance companies are unaware) unless during ones probation they do something wrong and are arrested again. Can anyone advise on what this SR-22 is all about? I apologize for being so unaware, this entire experience is a first and last time experience for me for sure!!!

Thanks in advance....

All My Best! :)

An SR22 filing means your insurance company is required by law to let your state know if you are insured or uninsured. It will also jack up your rates too. Your state will most likely require one in order to reinstate your driving priveliges. And your DUI experience is public record, anybody that wants the info can get it. And insurance companies have this neat little trick of checking your driving record on a random basis and they really hate surprises, especially DUI tickets. In fact, your policy probably gives you a very short period of time to notify them of any driving related convictions or your policy will be cancelled.

Right; here in Florida SR-22 insurance is only required to get your new license IF you were uninsured at the time of your arrest.
