I thought about this and I have to say:
DO NOT DO IT.
If you adopt your stepdad, he will become your child and then you will be your mother's parent in-law. It just gets too confusing.
Oh and you also become your own grandpa and your stepdad becomes your mother's husband AND grandson. Consider the family tree. It just is not good. SO DO NOT DO IT!
