What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Connecticut/Texas

I know that I will have to contact a lawyer, but I would like to at least know a little bit about what I'm talking about before I hire one.

My daughter is now 6 1/2 years old and has not seen her father since she was a year old. He was incarcerated when she was 2, and as far as I know remained there until the beginning of this year. His family knew where we lived up until she was 3 1/2, until we moved from Texas to Kentucky. There is a history of domestic violence, and he had also made a threat to my mother that he would kidnap my daughter when we first broke up. Living so close to Mexico, i didn't feel safe, so I decided to move and didn't contact his family. We lived in Kentucky for 2 years and we are now living in Connecticut with my fiance. My fiance is interested in adopting my daughter before we get married.

What I want to know is what do I need to do so that my fiance can adopt my daughter? And do I have to follow Texas law or Connecticut law?

Like I said I know it's not a DIY and I know I will have to contact a lawyer I just want to know what to expect.

If Dad contests the adoption, you may have quite a struggle on your hands.

So. You are hiding the child from Dad and Dads family. K.

Your boyfriend will not be able to adopt the child unless both you and the father terminate your parental rights.

Ok, so here's the basic game plan:

1. get married
2. Stay married for several years
3. notify child's father and feel him out
4. contact a lawyer to do all the paperwork


Something you should be aware of, Mom: If you and Mr. Wonderful split up after years of wedded and adoptive bliss, he has equal standing to obtain custody of the child and you could be on the hook for child support.

But you DID hide her. That makes your case much, much weaker.

And, you actually SAID that he wants to adopt her before you are married. In fact, let me quote:

I think that you are molding your story as we go.
