What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? #3-JUST because you married dad/mom, technically and in all reality, does not mean that YOU inherited children. you inherited the title "live in babysitter". it sucks, i know. i do it myself, but i do enjoy it!

I agree with most of your points except the one mentioned above. A person who marries a parent inherits the title of stepmom or stepdad. Only if that person chooses, do they become the live-in babysitter. I feel your post implies that stepparents are SUPPOSED to take on the role of babysitter which is not true. Yes, a stepparent has the same legal rights as a babysitter (none) but that does not mean they are expected to fill that role.

I think the larger point is that they shouldn't take on the role of new/substitute/better/etc. mother/father.

The bolded is NOT an option for a stepparent. A parent will be in the life of the child whether or not the stepparent wants it.
