What is the name of your state? Michigan

On Saturday Night I went over my friends apartment
for my birthday party, I brought with me my $300 digital camera.
When I left for the evening I forgot it, on the way home I called
my friend and told him to take the camera and put it in his room
so no one would mess with it. When I returned the next day the camera
could not be found, I called him at work and he said he forgot to put it away.
It is now gone is there anything that can be done? I have online chat logs of him admitting to not putting the camera away and being negligent. So far everyone agrees that the camera was in fact there when I left and they saw it on the table. I realize I shouldn't have left it there but I just needed to know if anything could be done from a legal stand point.

Thanks for any advice.

For the sake of the friendship, your best bet is to probably negotiate with the friend to split the cost in replacing the camera.

Even if losing the friendship is worth it, $300 is not much to pursue in small claim courts; just my $0.02.
