What is the name of your state? virginia
My car was stolen from a 4 star hotel. it was valet parked!
The car has been located. The hotel has offered little in the way of compensation. should I sue? The hotel states they have video surveilance that shows the person that took the keys. When the car was recovered in Alexandria va they (the police) have someone in custody. what legal action can I take against the hotel? Any advice welcome.

The tape was tuned over to police, I have not heard from them.
I'm told the keys were left unattended at the front desk. They do have a secure location for valet keys.

They took the keys? Where were the keys kept and was there adequate protection for the keys. I guess the question is were they negligent? Its one thing for it to be stolen by breaking the lock, but another for someone to steal the keys from the hotel. Why not bring that up to the hotel, depending on how they keys were or were not guarded/locked up will determine if you have a case......please tell me you have the tape already, and what have the police said

On the back of most car parking lot ticket where they allow you to park your car or someone parks your car for you is a disclaimer. The question stands, were there a disclaimer on your ticket given by the valet person? I think you will have to prove negligence in what insurance they cover for "valet" parking and what security measures they will own up to and not own up to. I think the answer would be on the back your valet ticket if you were given one. If you don't have one...I do not see a problem with obtaining one from them or generally people throw them away once they receive their car back. I will try and get one for that matter.

Those disclaimers aren't worth the paper they are written on. Especially in the case of the keys being taken vs a break in

Mayybe, but it a good defense for the other party. That is what you will have to contend with. Try you luck and see what happen.
