My neighbors 9 year old granddaughter took my daughters jacket
back with her to her home in Florida. She visits my neighbor every week or every other week. The jacket was taken in March without my permission or knowledge. When I saw it was missing, I went to my neighbors house to get it and they had already left and went to Florida with it.
Since then I have tried to get it back from them, while hearing their excuses
"they forgot" or if they don't bring it next time they will pay me for it".
Which never happens. The granddaughter called me on the phone and told me she would bring it back, she has it at her house.
Well she never brought it back. Now they ignore us and don't visit anymore.
I guess they think I will forget about the jacket in time and then they will show up at my door again, thinking I forgot about it.
Not True. They honestly refuse to give back the jacket for unknown reasons.
I just want the jacket back, thats all.
Is there anything I can do? How can I get back the stolen jacket?

My response:

You actually found this site, read all the rules and conditions, signed up to become a member, wrote that long post, and you're talking about getting back a lousy "jacket"? Oh, please.

Where is your "legal" question?

I guess my legal question would be
How to get back stolen property?

The granddaughter comes from a very rich family.
She has no reason to steal other peoples jackets.

My response:

Sincerely, you have GOT to be kidding.

Did you buy this jacket at Mauricio's on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, or at your local Wal-Mart?

My further response:

I realize that the probability of you ever having been out of Alabama is more than likely slim to none, so let me help you with the word "Rodeo" - - it's pronounced RO-DAY-OH, not RO-DEE-OH.

How would you feel if someone came into your home,
took something that belongs to you without your knowledge,
admitted to you they did it and refuse to give it back?

Oh well I see I am getting no where here. Unless someone else posts.
I guess I could tell the police about the situation
and file a stolen property report against them.
I guess I'll start there, since they will not give me back
the jacket, which Is Mine and I know they have it.

My response:

You've probably been no further than 1 mile from a Wal-Mart, have you?

Your post ALMOST made it as a Runner Up in my "Most Stupid Post" contest - - almost.

Well if a lousy jacket does not mean anything to you,
Why don't you mail me a jacket ?
since you are so privileged and have had enough
extra time on your hands to post over 36,000 times
on here.

My response:

Ma'am, send your home address to the Moderator, and she will give it to me. I'll buy you a Wal-Mart Gift Certificate for $29.95, and mail it to you. Will that shut you up? Hell, that'll probably buy you the best jacket in the store!

Yelp

Thanks for pointing out the fact that I am being
over dramatic here. Although I could do without the
insults. Yes I do travel outside of Alabama and do so
quite nicely, Thank you.
A family member traveled to California before
does that count on my behalf?
I mean I actually had a family member visit California
so I can relive the moments and pretend I wuz thar too
thru thar eyes.
I hug the California post card close to heart every night
saying Oh Cali I'll never let you go, oh the memories
oh the wonderment thru yore eyes!

Seriously,
She was always taking something from my place without permission
which were never returned.
Spoons, swimsuits, a key to a diary, and now the jacket.
She also informed me that she would come to my place any time
and get what ever she wanted and no one would do anything about
it.

If she keeps taking things from my place, I'm afraid one day
she will take something very important and keep it too.
And I see her parents and the grandparent don't care.
She has a problem. If she does this in a store one day
she will get caught, then what will she or her parents say ?
And I certainly would not want to be there in the store with
her when it happens. The girl is bad news.
Thanks for the Wal mart offer, which took me off guard.
I was not expecting that. Its really nice of you.
But I will have to decline on the offer.
Unless its some prize I won with your stupid post contest. (joke)
And yes I could travel to California if I wanted to.
I am just afraid the big earthquake will knock Cali
off the map, while I'm there. Big changes always follow me.

My response:

Lady, what do you want? Really, what the hell do you want?

This is a legal site. Do you have a real "legal" question? Do you want to sue the kid?

Hey, here's a bright thought - - Did you ever think of saying, "You're not coming through my aluminum door, so stay out."

I'm not kidding. If it will shut you up and make you stop getting high blood pressure over a lousy jacket, I will gladly send you a gift certificate from Wal-Mart. Wouldn't that make you happy? You could even get the jacket with the real artificial rabbit collar and cuffs, if you want!

That's the best offer you've probably had all day. Take me up on the offer. I promise to send you a gift certificate. Buy another jacket, and call it a day.
