What is the name of your state? NY

I went to the Dentist, she did some work that was not as it should be, I had minor problems w/her work in the past, this time I was fed up, I stopped payment on the check I wrote for $121, I had called the next day to tell them I was unhappy w/the work they had done, I will pay twice that at the new Dentist to fix problem. They send letter stating I have 10 days to pay the 121 or they will file a police report and issue a warrant, I stopped payment because the services I received were awful, can they do this?

Yes, they can do this. That check you wrote was a promise to pay and you had no valid reason to stop payment on the check. The correct thing to do would have been to allow the check to go through and then file a suit of your own against the dentist for their shoddy work. You could also have not written the check in the first place if you already knew that the work was not to your satisfaction.

Did you even give the dentist the opportunity to correct what was wrong?
