What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? nj

Hi,

My wife told me that in order to get answers to my question, I had to come post myself.

I just had one question, is it within my right to request meeting The mother of my child's significan other. I was informed that they were getting married. In all fairness, I've introduced her to my wife when we were engaged but now she tells me it's none of my business who she is involved with. I never saw him but my child says his name constantly, I just want to know who is around my child if this person is to be a significant part of his life.

Should I ask the mother of my child if I can meet him? and is it my right?

Thanks

You can ask, but you don't have a legal right to demand a meeting (unless, of course, it is stated in your court order that you do have that right...which would be unusaul, to say the least).

YOU may not know him, but he is not a stranger to your child.

Mom has just as much right to determine who will be around the child as you do and she doesn't need your consent, approval or blessing.

I, personally, don't think your request is unreasonable. But at the same time is isn't your "right" either. Unless there is something in the custody order that would give you the right to meet all people that your ex exposes your child to...Which I kind of doubt.

You can ask but that does not mean she has to say yes.

Judge in my ex husbands case years ago before I met him (or I would have told him not to even ask it but I was not around then) made the following statement and it's copied directly from his court docs.

"Information in regards to significant others for either party unless detrimental to the safety of the children is here by denied."

It was nice of you to offer to introduce your new wife to her but she does not have to recipitate
