Miami, Florida-22 year old female

I work in a strip club, probably shouldn't say the name. I am a cocktail waitress, and am having a very big problem.

I am being harassed and stalked by a customer in the club. I have spoken to management about it, and a bouncer walks me to my car at the end of my shift. The guy waits around the corner and follows me home. I have filed a complaint with the police, and I swear the guy is still parking outside my house. He comes in the club whenever I am working and follows me around, causes me to drop my tray, etc. He grabs me all the time, and I really can't complain because it IS a strip club.

The club has told me they will fire me if I pursue a restraining order, probably because the guy spends a lot of money in the club.

Can they do this? What can I do? Should I really have to quit my job to stop this?

Thanks.

Will that do? Seriously, can you please let me know what I can do?

 Shame on you HG.

So if the guy is inside the strip club he would be violating an R/O this maybe why the owners told you that.

I don't understand why they do not wish to protect their employees. Maybe someone could answer the question as to if this person is a patron of the strip club he would not be violating the R/O. I know that since I work in a public building and someone I have a R/O against enters for legite business he/she won't be picked up. You have presented quite a question.

You should also know that in this line of business it will be quite common for this type of behavior. Afterall it is men we are talking about :D

dequeendistress-

Oh, I know! Men are pigs...can't blame them though, half-naked women everywhere! It wouldn't even be an issue if he was just really grabby, it's the stalking and the club's response to it.

If I have to quit, I have to quit. I just don't feel like it's fair, I've done nothing but do my job. Thanks for your reply.

**A: wrong, a RO applies to both private and public property.

**A: you are missing the point. The writer is in a no-win situation. If she does nothing the harassment continues. If she does something ( file TRO), she gets fired. Then she would need to file a lawsuit against her employer for wrongful termination, discrimination etc. And then other strip clubs will not want to hire her.

Good point, HomeGuru.

So I guess I just have to find another job. Maybe as a 'real' waitress...this is what I get for trying to take the easy way to earn money.

I think I do need a restraining order, but I also need the reference. So I should put in my 2 weeks and then file an order, right?

This is so unfair!

Just to be slightly facetious, perhaps you should introduce this stalking patron to a particularly large friend of yours who just happens to have an anger problem. It would especially help if said person happened to be, say, your older brother and a weightlifter and waiting on your porch with a baseball bat when your lovely stalker comes to your house.

It sucks you'll probably have to quit your job, but hey, maybe you can go back to school or something like that... you know, you sound like you're not a stupid girl and are probably better than just working at some strip club.

HG-Because I am a public servant....I also have an unusual situation.

BUT you are correct...she is in a no win situation. Can an employer keep one from filing a R.O. or a T.R.O. though?

Ok, I guess the "at will" employee is going to be the reason...(I hope for a complete answer on this question as well) I also see the point about the discrimination lawsuit; which equals a long and costly ordeal...

Would the EEOC be interested in this case?

I will spill the beans on my own thread, one day. :p

To the OP read this article: http://search.netscape.com/ns/boomf...org/images/Strip_club_testimony_and_study.PDF

You really should find another type of work, as to the order of things: File for the RO then quit.

You can always list the previous employer on your applications, and if possible elaborate on your experience there, anyone should be able to understand your situation, if not they are as much of a jerk as the owners of the strip club, and you deserve better.

Haven't you people learned that this never gets this response you hope for? :p

By the way OP, as a possible non-court alternative answer, have you considered telling Mr. Grabby the next time he's around that when you used to be a man, you did the same thing to a waitress till you found out that she had herpes and you contracted it? I'm guessing you won't be seeing him much after that.

If not, not that I'd know or anything, but there is (I hear), more than one nudie bar in Miami. I'm sure others need waitresses as well.

Thelizzy - lol, thanks for the reply. :) I'm actually in my last year of school right now, it helps to only work 3 nights a week & earn so much, studying, saving for loan payments, etc.

dequeendistress - thank you! Very helpful. Whatever your situation is, I hope it works out. :)

HomeGuru - Thanks for your replies.

You Are Guilty - I'm not sure I really want to be at another club, I've been here 2 1/2 years...girls are so hard to get along with, it'd be the same thing at another club, yada yada yada. (heard about other clubs, eh? ;) )

I'm filing a restraining order first thing in the morning, and I'm quitting at the end of tonight.(Might as well make some more money) I can find another job, something else...you are all right. I don't deserve this crap, and I can find another line of work.

Thank you for the concern & replies. :D

That's right. You go girl. Stand up for your rights. You're better than strip club material. You are a woman in transition.
