What is the name of your state?
I recently graduated and left FL to move back home to NJ. I just received a card that says I was summoned to appear at the warrant bureau in the next 10 days or a warrant would be issued for my arrest but since my mail is being forwarded the last day is this monday. The other problem is I'm not sure if it is for a parking citation i received for parking in a handicap spot or for a sworn complain that invloved pocession of less than 20 grams of cannabus. Either way what actions do I take and what will happen because I'm very concerned being I live so far away. I had a lawyer from campus involved w/ the cannabus charge who said she would call me and make sure the charges were moved if there was an arraignment involved but I have no heard from her so I'm assuming its the parking ticket (which I also never received the mail on whether my petition was granted or denied so I still have not paid it). I would appreciate any advice on what to do come Tuesday....

Stop parking in handicaped spaces and get ready to come back to Florida real soon ! to face what ever charge that is out there (i'm thinking it might be about the pot thingy, if i were a betting man :) oh by the way in this life never, i mean never assume anything because you know what happens when you do that (assuming you know what i'm talking about) i'll let the other posters on this forum inform you :) good luck

Do not fail to ask these same questions of your attorney.

This same attorney will then file to have the charges pending, adudicated where law permits.

A word to the wise. Some Florida jurisdictions will come get you, or extradite you back to Florida. Years, and years later....for a traffic fine unpaid, a Failure to Appear, and other charges.

There is applicable law where the costs to transport back to the State of Florida, is to be born by the transported party.

You do the math on that one.

Not familiar with any lingo so...

What exactly does it mean to have the charges pending, adudicated where law permits....? She also told me even if this did happen that since its my first and only offense I would prob just get a small fine and some community service and could ask to have it expunged from teh records when complete.

One other question...hoping that it is still the parking violoation...I went on there phone and online service to try to pay it b/c I at least found the citation number and it no longer comes up on either one. Does that mean theres a good chance the summons is for this and not the pot charge?

Charges pending= the charges you are facing.

Adjudicated= the outcome of your charges in a court. By a judge, or by a jury.

Where law permits= where law permits.

Now then, common sense must tell you that if you yourself were not notified as to whether the letter you received indicated to you which of the two court issues facing you are; then it would certainly be impossible for me to know myself.

good things you ppl are wrong

im writing this just so you dont make others sweat like you have done to me. My lawyer who is free of charge from my school has spoken w/ me and said she is gettin the summons and that I WONT have to come back and at most its gonna be community service and non-visitation probation or just pay a fine. Just wanted to write this so others can see that everyone on here are obviously not the EXPERTS that like to write as.

Maybe its b/c you ppl didnt know it was my first and only offense or maybe you like to see people grill or maybe you people are just all 17. Regardless, eat me.

It is precisely as I stated could happen under the proper conditions. READ my first post. (Ask your attny; the attny can have the case moved where law permits; etc., etc., etc.)

As for what I know. I know that a person, pulled-over in Alaska with a broken tail light, was extradited back to Florida for failure to pay a traffic fine he incurred 12 years prior.

He was ground transported by contract carrier. The trip took 4 weeks. (Other stops to make along the way you understand. Other prisoners to pick-up and other prisoners to drop-off).

The 28 days spent in custody during transport were not counted toward his Failure to Appear criminal charge. He spent 14 days in jail waiting a hearing date. Given time served on the FTA. He paid the traffic fine of $115.00, and the court gave him one year to re-imburse his transport costs. $11,800.

This does not scare you, it scares me. That is why it was indicated to you.

I do not know anything. I am not 17. You do know everything. You are 17.

Um

I'm not 17 and that had to be some rare case to do that to someone. Don't you think they had to have some other offenses or SOMETHING to bring them all the way back like that. And that does scare me...

Yes, Florida extradites for anything!

The same thing Florida-aise posted happend to my brother. He moved here (Iowa) from Florida. He evidently had a warrant in Florida for a minor possession charge. Florida came and got him. It took them 10-14 days to get to Florida (in a van). There were guys in the van who's been in it all the way from California. When I called the Florida Sheriff's office, a deputy said that Florida will extradite you for an outstanding parking ticket!

Conclusion So People Know

Writing this for the concerned young adults and other citizens who read this message board. My free lawyer said that they accepted something deferment and I have non-appearance or introduction probation for 6 months and have the option to eithe pay 170 dollar fine or 10 hours community service and DO NOT have to go down there or be driven down there for 11,000 likes these ridiculous stories posted. I dont know why they give u the option either pay a fine or do service since everyone should prob already do some sort of service and esp if you can save money and help ppl at the same time.

Thanks for none of you help those who tried to scare.

Good luck to the rest of you.

You are lucky

Not everyone is entitled to simply community service. You are one of the very few lucky ones. You are also lucky you are able to handle your problem while living out of state. Many people have to travel back to the state from which their charges originated in order to get theirs straightened out.

Have you ever heard of the term "scared straight"?? Evidently some of the posters on the site need a dose. My post was not something I made up. This truly happened to my brother. I hope that some of the people who read this forum will get a dose of reality on some of the terrible outcomes from getting into legal trouble.

I suggest you read more of the posts on this site. Some of them are eye-opening.
