tax rebate check stolen and cashed

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA

My tax rebate check was stolen and cashed at Nix check cashing. Now Nix want me to pay for the amount since the IRS took the money back from them.
The check clearly has the person's driver's license on it and their name. Their name isn't even close to mine.

The IRS are aware that the check was stolen.

What can I do? Nix is asking me for their money back.

Kindly remind them that they helped to perpetrate fraud against you. The have no cause or remedy against you. Just make sure to keep all your documentation just in case they attempt to sue you.
