What is the name of your state?
Illinois

Received my tax return last week(3k), spent it on household things and a few other small items. Now how many months should I wait to file bankruptcy so the trustee doesnt make a big deal about it or will it even be an issue. Thanks.

Likely won't be much of an issue if you used it for ordinary expenses. Ask your lawyer what he/she would recommend.
