What is the name of your state? Ohio

This is long, but Please, any help would be appreciated.

ok this is the situation......A tenant said he was moving out on a said date. when the landlord went to go check the rental out to clean it up and rent it out the tenants things were still inside. the landlord made daily checks on the prop. but nothing had changed and no hide nor hair of the tenant. 2 weeks went by. tenant finally called and wanted to pick up his belongings set a time and date and never showed or called. didn't hear anything again for another week and a half. set another time and date and again no show no call. then nothing again for another week. during that week the landlord went in and removed tenants belongings (the tenant never left a number or address to be reached at even when asked he refused to disclosed the information just said he had moved 3 hours away) and stored them in landlords garage. tenant called and AGAIN no show no call. so landlord got rid of tenants belongings mind you it had been about 4 1/2 - 5 weeks since tenant said he was moving out on a certain date. the tenat called again and was told that the belongings had been gotten rid of. tenant then stated he was going to get a hold of legal aid. landlord has not heard anything yet (it has been about 1 1/2 weeks since that phone call).

What can happen in a situation like this? Is the tenant in the right? Is the landlord in trouble? Does legal aid even take cases like this? does anyone know what the landlord is to expect on this?

Please any advise or knowledge of a similer situation would help bunches.

Thanks, Me

ok, I kind of figured that and told him what I had thought, but what can happen now? Will legal aid take a for profit case? ( I was told by someone who 'thought' that legal aid doesn't take cases where the plaintiff would gain money.) What can happen to the landlord? What kind of trouble will the landlord get into? Please let me know.

Thanks, Me

WELL, if you must know "this person" is my husband. so if you don't want to answer my questions or at least be civil then please do not waste my time with your smart remarks. Thanks, Me

I am worried that we made the wrong choice matter of fact I was a little against it but hubby insisted that we needed to get the rental up and runing and that we had given the tenat fair time to retrieve his belongings after he said he was moving out and after he told us that he HAD moved out and moved 3 hours away. I am just tring to figure out what is to be expected if this goes to court. Thanks for you time and patience, Me

With the remarks you were giving me, what's the difference? Seems I was "on my own" before. Thanks a lot. What is this site for? If a person can't ask a question and get a civil response, then all this site is doing is taking up cyber space. You make no sense to me. Why reply to peoples posts if all your going to do is be rude. I asked a question, I thought I was doing what the site is here for. Well thanks anyway, Me

Now we are going to resort to name calling...how childish. Why are you giving me such a hard time? Do you get off on this? I have looked at your other posts, and some are quite rude. Are you that miserable in your world that you have to bring others into it?

As for "I DID give you an answer." Look at the questions.

Tell me how the "A: L violated the provisions of the Ohio abandoned property law." so called answer you gave me, answers any one of them!

I already knew something wasn't right. What I was trying to find out is what can/might/will/could happen now if this goes to court. If there was anyone else this type of thing happened to that knows of a possible outcome.

Thanks for your time, Me

**A: read on.
*******

What can happen in a situation like this?

**A: how the hell should I know. Do I look like I have a crystal ball? Nothing can happen or the tenant could ask for some $$$$ or they could sue.
********

Is the tenant in the right?

**A: yes, and if your husband read the L/T law, like he should have in the first place, you would already know the answer.
*********
Is the landlord in trouble?

**A: possibly, but why do you use the word landlord when the landlord is your husband?
********

Does legal aid even take cases like this?

**A: of course they do, all the time.
*********

Does anyone know what the landlord is to expect on this?

**A: expect the worse and be ready to get hit with a major lawsuit.
