What is the name of your state? Indiana

I was ticketed for minor consumption, which is a misdemeanor, according to my friend. At the end of my ticket under court appearance (it's in the same box as the court info) it says, "Signature required for misdemeanors. Failure to sign will result in your immediate appearance before court." However, I didn't sign anything and the cop never told me to sign anything, what happens now that I didn't sign it? He gave the the copy of the ticket and I don't think I have to send the ticket in or anything because it doesn't say I'm supposed to. He just told me to go to court on that date.

By "Immediate Appearance Before the Court" means you get arrested. If you were not arrested, that means you didn't have to sign. You were served with a copy of the citation, notifying you of the court date, time, and location.

If you're thinking of using the fact that the cop didn't ask you to sign as some sort of defense, I suggest you try something else. That dog won't hunt.

So go to court on that date.

One more suggestion. Don't listen to your 'friend' when he tries to give you legal advise. Ask a real attorney.

Thanks for the reply. I was only thinking that just in case I got in trouble for not signing, not for getting out of the ticket.
