What is the name of your state? Texas

My lawyer has recently said that I have not lived in the district long enough to file bankruptcy here. I have been here 5 months and this is the first I've heard of this rule in the months I have been working through legal aid to find a lawyer to handle my bankruptcy.

Is there a time limit I must have been living in the district, and if so what can I do if I am short on the time?

Thank you in advance.

You have to live in the district you file in for at LEAST 91 of the last 180 days prior to your filing date. Actually, the law says you have to have lived there for the greater part of the 180 days (6 months) prior to filing.. 91 days would be JUST enough. If you've been in TX for 5 months, then I see no reason why you cannot file there. Talk to another lawyer.
