Prior to a support order being made but being sought- is a minor required or expected to pay child support? If not, are they required to pay immediately upon turn 18? And what if you're not expected to graduate from high school until after you turn 19 are you required to work to pay support and attend high school?

Also if an individual is incarcerated are they expected to continue to pay support accumulating arrearages?

Being a minor makes no difference. Until there is an order for support to be paid, no support is owed. However, the support may be retroactive to the filing date. Yes, a HS student can be expected to pay support (generally a minimal amount), either from working outside of school hours or by having his/her parents pick up the payments. Being a minor isn't an exemption - old enough to play, old enough to pay support.

If this person is incarcirated, then the support still adds up. It isnt the childs fault their parent is in prison. They will still owe all that money when they get out, unless of course, life in prison or death row inmates.
But, no it doesnt "go away" even if you "ignore" it.

An incarcerated person would have to file to have child support stopped during their incarceration. Whether or not a judge will allow it is another story.
