What is the name of your state? MD

Hi, my husband lost his job for 3 months and have arrears to pay his child support. He called CS Dept to provide new information for his new job. There is a new CS order with the original amount together with the arrears directed to his employer. Then, there are other letters stated my husband needs to pay the arrears within 30 days, and on the next day another letter stated it should be paid by 15 days. I don't know how the department is working, why they send so many confusing letters? Can they just stick with one?

So, he wrote a letter asking for explanation, which one should he follows. Should he just let the deduction of arrears from his salary as per new CS Order, or he has to pay within 30 or 15 days? He tried to call many times, no one answer and even one customer service person promised to return his call by 48 hours, and it has been a week! We also wrote a letter with return receipt with all the questions.

I am really tired of all non-consistence instruction. I just want to get over it, luckily I get a job by end of the month, and I am going to help my husband to pay the arrears. Another 6 years and the nightmare will be over! I've told my husband....next time if you want to make a kid...think whether its worth it or not. He got married too young, married two years, get a kid, divorce...and now the pain is never end, it's hunting not only him, but me and our future children for a very-very long time.

It sounds to me like he's going to have to get in front of a judge and get this answered. Keep in mind that any bank accounts he has can be siezed, even if your name is on them....

Thats scary....but it their letter just stated that they only send it to credit reports and DMV or hold the passport. Nothing about seize account. Furthermore, they already instructed his employer to deduct his salary together with the arrears. Anyone has experience about this? Please let me know, so if its true, I need to open my own account. Now I have a join account with my husband.

If they have already instructed his employer to withhold both regular child support, and a portion towards arrearages, then that normally keeps any further action from happening.

However...if the two of you have the means to send in additional monies towards the arrearages, it would be wise to do so. Often the amount withheld towards arrearages covers little more than the interest accruing on the arrearages. Therefore the sooner you get them paid off, the better off your family will be financially....and the less damage will be done to his credit report.

If something like this should happen again....it would be wiser to pay SOMETHING towards the child support or even the entire child support amount, if at all possible.

Separate you moneys NOW . As a matter of fact with drawl all the money If you can , leaving Just enough to keep HIS account open .

If he has any direct Deposits , see if he can change it to him receiving the funds directly .

Don't trust what CS personnel tell you .

One letter may be indicating if arrears aren't paid in 15 days , they will suspend his licenses .

These types of notices are automatically generated by computers and the systems .

As someone stated , take in front of a Judge to get an Order . If it's ordered payments including arrears will be garnished , have the Court clarify the License will not be suspended.

Ha Humm , You told him he was careless about having children , but you two plan on Future Children .

Maybe protection for the next 6-8 years would be wiser .

Lol Blonde Lebanese :D Well...my husband really want children, but I said no...I keep postponing since we're married two years ago. Its all because I want to make sure we are financially stable and that we can afford it. So when the right time come, we will have our own children. Marriage and commitment are something that I take seriously. I've told him that if he thinks he cannot have a long commitment with me, he better not to think about having children.

Thanks for all the advice. I already call my bank today to open my own individual account, so I can transfer all my income to that account. I discussed this with my husband and he agreed :) ... and yes, we planned to pay it all once we have enough, prabably within a month or two.
