What is the name of your state? MD

Please help me understand if this is legal....

I was just told today that I have been getting paid more than I should have. They said it was their mistake (in payroll), but now they say that I need to pay it back. Are they aloud to do that? If it was their mistake, why should I have to suffer.

Please help me out. :confused:

well

Im not an attorney, but no-one has answered you, so.. picture this scenario;
you are shopping and as you check out the cashier gives you the wrong change, s/he is off a great deal and s/he is shorting you. Wouldnt you bring it to their attention?Wouldnt you want your money?Just my opinion, but if you are aware they made a mistake, give it back,its only honorable.Mistakes happen all the time, dont take advantage.the dog

While I don't disagree with the answer above, I have a question for you that will affect how I answer.

When they say you were being paid too much, do they mean that you were told you would be paid $10 per hour and they should have told you $8 per hour? Or do they mean that they told you, you would be paid $10 per hour but by mistake they've been paying you $12 per hour?
