What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MI

Just wondering if a company has a copyright for a product and you want to do a handmade version to go along with part of the product and sell it on ebay can the original company sue?

For example: Company makes different varieties of covers that goes on their item. I make a slip cover that fits over their original cover, that is custom/one of a kind/handmade and sell it on ebay. Can the company come and sue me for taking away profit because if there were no "custom" covers the buyers would only have the choice to by the company produced ones?

Thanks!!What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?

There is no copyright issue here.

For fun, since you've not provided any real information whatsoever, let's pretend you created a carrying case for an Ipod. If you market your case specifically as an Ipod case, you can sure as heck bet that Apple will be knocking at your door with a cease-and-desist accompanied by a bill. Now, if you were to market your case simply as an mp3 carrier case, then you'd be less likely to face any problems.

Since I am no expert in this area, it is very possible that the information I have provided is not accurate, so I suggest waiting for certain posters (such as Div, Ron, or Quincy) to correct me.

Regardless, before taking any business venture where risks such as this may occur, I would find a good IP attorney to sit down with so that he may analyze all relevant facts/details and advise accordingly.
