What is the name of your state? MA

I found this info on the USCIS website:

A Permanent Resident of the United States can travel freely outside of the US. A passport from the country of citizenship is normally all that is needed. To reenter the US a Permanent Resident normally needs to present the green card (Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551) for readmission. A reentry permit is needed for reentry for trips greater than one year but less than two years in duration.

Can someone just confirm I am understanding this correctly? When my husband receives his green card with conditional status, we would like to take a trip abroad. His current passport is not the same passport he used when he first arrived in the US (it's since expired. He now has new passport, without I-94, visa, or stamp or anything). We still have his old passport, with the I-94 and visa and all. When travelling, do we only need his new one, or should we bring both? Or do you get some sort of stamp in your passport when you receive your greencard? We're just not sure.

You will only need the new passport + Green Card for entry to the US. When the PR is approved, you may ask for a stamp I-551 in your passport. They may or may not give it to you; it is only temporary evidence of the PR status and the GC is the 'real' proof. You can carry the old passport if it makes you feel better, but his pp and GC will be swiped at entry, and are all that are required.
