I am in Florida. I turn 18 in August. I desparately want to move out of my parents house. I will not go into specifics, but it is best for my mental health! My parents know my desire, and have begun threatening not to let me leave. They say that they can legally require me to stay until I finish high school, I still have 1 year left. They even sometimes say that they can keep me here until I am 21!

Is there any truth to this? What are my rights when I am 18? Can I move out? Are there ANY laws anywhere that they can use to legally keep me here? Please respond. Thanks!

On the same note, are there any laws that could allow me to move out when school lets out, 2 months before my 18th birthday??

Thanks!

Once you are 18, you can do what you want.. If you move out at 17 and 10 months, they would have to be very mean people to call the police and try to have to arrested. Chances are nothing will happen at that point.
