Ok...Here is the scenerio. An employee gives a 2-week notice to end their employment. The employee works like normal but a week before their 2-weeks were up; the employer tells the employee to go home and not return (ie: ending the employment a week earlier than anticipated) Can the employee seek unemployment for 1 week (that following week that they had planned on working but the employer would not let them)?

I don't want a definate answer as to IF they would be granted unemployment, but would it be grounds to at least try and seek the unemployment for that one week? I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, but hopefully someone can verify it?

Thanks in advance!

I don't know Iowa law specifically with regards to UC law, and that's what will say whether it will be granted or not. But by all means he should apply. He would be eligible in many states; Iowa UC will have to tell you whether they are one of them or not.

Keep in mind that some states have a one-week waiting period.
