My soon-to-be ex got "fired" recently. In Massachusetts can a person who is fired, receive unemployment benefits? Is a person obligated to pay child support when they become unemployed? When filing for unemployment is child support payment considered when the state calculates how much money the unemployed person will receive?
Since I don't know if he was fired or layed off, is there any way I can check? My lawyer has asked to see his termination papers, but his lawyer is very good with delay tactics and has never provided any papers we've requested.

Yes - if he was fired for anything but criminal behavior

Of course

NO. Support is based on the person's income - if he was earning 60,000 and got fired and now only makes $400.00 a week - the child support is calculated on the $60,000.00..however since unemployment is temoporary he can fiile for modification of child support based on temporary circumstances

What's the difference? Unemployment will remain the same.

It is not true that a person who was fired will receive UI unless it was for criminal behavior. While a person who was fired can receive UI, it's going to depend on the specific circumstances. I"ve had employees declined for UI because they were fired for excessive absenteeism; that's hardly criminal behavior.
