What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Ohio
I've been a union member for 20 years, until I changed crafts. I work for the USPS. When I switched jobs I chose not to join their union for various reasons. The union has chosen to list all non union members names in their minutes posted on their board in a commom area. I asked why the need to post the names (when it is common knowledge who is and isn't a member). I was told by some members that its just to let people know. However when I asked the Union President why the need for posting the names he said" They're up there to force people, well coerce the people to join." I said thats illegal to post the names with that intent. He said nothing. Later in the day his memory of the conversation was that he didn't use force or coerce and if he did I took it the wrong way or that he said they're up there to "not force or coerce people to join". I think he crossed the line but need advice on the situation. My goal is to get my name off their board as a matter of principle and nothing else.

Yes, I asked the Union President to remove my name and his first response was that management cannot interfere with postings on their board. I'm a craft employee and have not asked managment to request the removal on my behalf. Then he said it will stay up and there is nothing I could do about it. Later he said the members at the next meeting would vote on it. He made it obvious why our names are put on the board (even though now he is having a well planned memory lose) and I need to know if he crossed the line. Thanks

fmla and using sick vs. vacation benefits

I had to assist my wife recently to the hospital via ER (unplanned visit) and was "given" vacation time by my employer even though I requested sick leave time and have accrued both. Can I be forced to use vacation vs. sick leave time?

I don't know why you hijacked this particular thread to ask this question, but the answer is "yes." The law doesn't require employers to provide sick, personal, or vacation time at all, so the way they expect employees to use them is entirely up to the employer, so if they want to insist people use vacation time before they can use sick/personal, they may. If they want to insist you can only use sick time when YOU are sick (not your wife, child, etc.), they may.
