What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?New York State I'm a female in her early 70's.In 2001, a contracter installed an old rebuilt part on my furnace instead of a new one. The furnace didn't function properly & I had to replace it with a new one.I refused to pay him. He took me to Small Claims court. The Judge was a former Contracter & possible friend. I wasn't treated fairly, the judge would not allow me to tell my full story. The contracter won. The usual time to my knowledge is 30 days that you have to pay a judgement before it is recorded at the County Clerk's Office. I never received this notice. I received a letter that a judgement was recorded against me from this contracter. When I tried to appeal, my phone calls & letters were ignored. Due to family health, I ignored the judgement. After all this time, I received a letter from my bank That a freeze was put on my checking account by this contracter's collection Agency or Attorny. This checking account only has my direct deposit SS checks. I complained & they will have to uplift this freeze. My question: If I contacted the Attorney General Or hired an Attorney Could I have this Judgement vacated. The contracter was clearly to fault & I wasn't treated fairly.I have an excellent credit rating except for this Judgement. Sorry for the long letter.

You need to appeal that bank levy immediately. Your SS funds are 100% EXEMPT from siezure and since it is direct deposited into your account is easy enough to prove.

Yes, an attorney would likely help you get this straightened out quicker than trying to do so yourself.

Social Security Freeze

New York State
It has been 8 days & they still haven't lifted the freeze on my checking account where my SS checks are deposited. April 22 I called the lawyers office, I was told to fax 3 months statements from my checking account then they would lift the freeze. I faxed the 3 months statements. Checked with the bank 4/26/05, the freeze hasn't been lifted. Called the Lawyers office , now they want a letter stating that the funds in my account are solely SS checks. The bank followed through. They still haven't lifted the freeze. Any suggestions on what I can do to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.Thank you.

Bug them AGAIN, they are holding funds they have no right to hold and you've sent them sufficient proof and complied with their requests for documentation. If it were me, I'd find a lawyer to write them a letter demanding they release the funds and the levy.
