What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Massachusetts

Landlord had been verbally abusive, swearing and yelling at me for several years now. He has pounded on my door, impatiently, and insisting that I let him in immediately, despite my being indisposed. I have insisted that he not enter my apartment for repairs without my being present, because he has left my door open whenever he has been in my apartment, and I have been in fear that my indoor cat would escape. While he was doing a repair here, he opened my closed bedroom door, while I was in my bedroom. I then told him off, that I had the right to my privacy, and that he should've knocked. He has been in a rage about all of this, as he refuses to be told what to do, cannot admit his wrongs, and thinks whatever he says or does is the bottom line. He has now sent me a termination notice(month-to-month tenancy). May I now, legally get a restraining order against him? I am afraid he may enter my apartment, in the pretense of an 'emergency repair', and let my cat out, or do harm to me and my belongings. (he has already tossed my furniture around with lack of care while doing repairs). He also neglected to provide heat during the very bad cold spells here. II now am without hot water. I have been afraid of retribution to report him. He is a very vicious and irrational man. Please help asap!

**A: have you ever read the MA L/T law?

It is too late to do anything about the heat now but it is a Massachusetts state law that heat is required for certain months throughout the year. There are several good web sites regarding landlord/tenant laws in Mass. Also, there is a bookstore near the State House that sells booklets stating the actual laws.
