What is the name of your state? Michigan

My problem is fairly simple, I am planning on taking my 2 children on a cruise for vacation. (We have joint legal.) The cruise line is requiring that I have a notorized consent form from my ex to allow me to take the kids on this cruise. He has refused. The cruise line states that they are following custody laws and that this is true for all cruise and airlines. I have never run across this problem before. Is the cruise line correct? Will I require a court order to allow us to go?

invite dad too if he wants to go

why dont u invite him on the cruise with you, that way you both can spend time with the kids.i dont know why he refuses to give you permission.

Yes..plan in advance and be prepared to take it to court to get a judge's approval to override dad...the judge WILL NOT be pleased with dad on this issue unless the cruise involves something odd or unusual.

It is standard policy for this cruise line. Dad and I don't get along at all, he is not getting along well with the kids either, as they have not seen him since April - his choice. Our judge is VERY familiar with our case and it will be no surprise that he won't sign the papers, just inconvenient.

Going through the same thing

We are leaving on a trip from CA where we live to OH to visit family. My ex was aware of it but now he is claiming he didn't know. Now he is saying that I have to ask him to take our son out of the state because we share joint legal custody, but I have primary custody. Is this true? There is no mention of that in our court paper work. I was told if it was only out of the country I would need written consent.

Can I leave the state without written permission from him?

how does the cruise line know ? if i was to go on a cruise would they ask me if i had custody of my children? normally if there is court paper work the parent only has to give an amout time to let the other parent know of such a plan( for a trip) which parent has custody? i guess all states are different if you have custody the other parent is just being a butt.

The cruiseline will ask any parent traveling alone with a child for proof that the other parent has consented to the trip. If they can't produce it, they will not be permitted to board.

We just received our paperwork from this cruise line and it has a specific form for all children under 18. We have to state our martial status and our custody status. We have to take our divorce decree and consent forms with us. I called them (the cruise line) and they recommended that I "wing it". It is not their policy, but law, so they may not ask for it. I have no intention to "wing it". I have been on cruise lines before and never had to provide this paperwork. They choose to enforce it.
