What is the name of your state? Maryland

My boyfriend & former employee has disappeared with a truck I bought for the company. The Title and registration are in "The name of the business c/o His Name". In my haste to get him gone, I agreed to give him the truck and title. He has not been seen or heard from since a week ago Friday!
Now I find I cannot cancel the insurance until the title is changed, presumably by him, which I don't see happening. Motor vehicle says I will have to report the truck stolen in order to chaneg the title and cancel the insurance. Wouldn't that be lying, since I voluntarily gave him the title?
Can't I file for a lost title or something?
I don't want to keep paying for his insurance yet I am told, if he wrecks or hurts someone, my company can lose everything if the victim sues!
I currently have criminal charges pending against this man but the County Commissioner tells me this is a Civil case.
Where do I begin to get this straightened out?

go to your local department of motor vehicles and ask if you can remove your company from the title and just have him listed on the title as the owner.

change of title

Perhaps you didn't read the entire post?
Motor vehicle here won't let me change the title...WITHOUT THE TITLE!

I can't remove myself without the PHYSICAL title in hand...thanks but that just won't work!

request another copy of the title. People lose their pink slips to cars and just request another copy from the dmv. Is the truck fully owned by your company or are you still making payments on it?

Been there done that

Have contacted the local and state Motor Vehicle Department...truck is fully owned by the company but, it is not a truth to say the title is "lost" since I voluntarily gave it to the driver of the vehicle. Since his name and the business are both on the title, I am told, by motor vehicle department, I cannot alter this...requesting duplicate title, I was told, was not possible.

Thanks but, did that, too

I have a VERY good insurance advisor that is telling me, because of the "wonderful state of affairs" Maryland is projecting, there is no recourse other than a civil suit. The County Commissioner and the Motor Vehicle agree...it's a "not my job" situation of state employees, other than my insurance agent who was the one who protected me from just cancelling the insurance to begin with!
He's not on any of the business policies any more, nor is he involved personally or legally with the business...it's the Motor Vehicle Admin that's killin me here!

I just went to Marylands DMV online and you can actually file for a duplicate copy and it states several reasons for you to check and it also says other. It requires the owner of the vehicle's signature and states if in name of company office can sign and state your affiliation with company. This vehicle is still in your company's name. You can file for a duplicate copy without lying or anything else.

Thanks but...

The Maryland Department of Motor Vehicles AND the Maryland Department of Transportation give more rights to the person with the vehicle and title than not. In order to even move from ground zero, he either has to transfer the title to himself or turn in the tags, both of which I am unable to do.
He has two outstanding warrants, with a third pending and the police have been unable to locate him since August! Even though I located him, called the police and gave an exact address and phone number...they CALLED FIRST!
Even if I do change ownership on the title, the tags belong to the current registration and I would need a return tag receipt before I can file any paperwork!
Imagine MY frustration! I can't even report the vehicle stolen, at this point because I GAVE him the title!

How about I call you, first?

This man is a known, repeated crack abuser who "lurks" in neighborhoods even the police won't go to! If you read my last post...when I did locate him and call the police, they CALLED FIRST...when the person answering the phone said they "hadn't seen him for a while" (I had just heard from him, at their house, 5 minutes before!)...the police let it go at that!
I don't imagine myself or anyone else sneaking into or out of these neighborhoods un noticed...especially with a truck being driven by someone who owes thousands of dollars to these guys for crack!

Not that I haven't considered it but...all I want to do is cancel the insurance, not cash in on my life insurance!
