Your absolute statement that everybody would create art even without financial incentive is just as false as the absolute statement you are accusing others of making.

No it isn't. I explained why. Before you continue down the silly path, what is art? It is human expression. If we were in a class, we might claim it is usually through visual media. But, that would prevent music from being art. The only humans who don't chose to express themselves in some way are those who cannot. We pejoratively call them vegetables. I amend my absolute statement to disinclude those who are so mentally or physically challenged so as to be unable to express themselves.

Most capitalists bathe regularly. As, I am sure, most posters here do. (Although I wonder about some.)

As for myself, I bathe at least once per week.

For the love of freakin' Pete, this argument is ridiculous.

I am a writer. Trained as such. Have made some money, not a lot but some, off my writing. I write because I enjoy it. If I knew that I would never get anything published and never make a penny off what I write, I would still do it.

However, if I can make some money from it, that's just so much the better. Getting paid to do something you love to do is a lot more enjoyable than not.

But to the poster's point - I did the work. I want the credit. It does not belong to "the people" - it belongs to me. I choose to share it but I do not choose to allow someone else to take the credit for it or share it themselves without my knowledge or permission. If I'm going to surrender some or all of the rights to it (say, to a publisher) you're damned right I'm going to get paid for it - that's MY work, not yours, and you're not going to share it with someone else without my permission.

Oh, I sooo agree with you, traumkampfer.

I am not sure from where the incentive to create will come, or how creative people will survive, but they absolutely should not be paid for any of their work.

To add to this earlier post of mine, I also think that tax preparers should not get paid for any of the work they do. Everyone's taxes should be done for free.

While clever, is there a difference between hiring a writer to write a piece and allowing another to read that piece later?

I'm sure many tax returns I prepare are shown to friends of clients in similar tax situations so they know how to prepare the return or a form. I recommend to many clients to not come back next year if their situation is the same and just put the information on the return as I had. Heck, banks use my work to help them make their decision and increase their profit. Can I charge them?
