I lost my job two weeks after relocating for work. The employer referred me to my landlord. Both were of the understanding that I was relocating for work. My employer posted the same title of my job in an employment ad the 1st of the month.
Is this illegal? Can my employer and landlord work together to secure me under a lease and then the employer fire me? I should mention that things went down hill at work when I told a co-worker I had purchased a gun. She told me I couldn't talk to that employee anymore. There were some problems with me getting to close to her but the co-worker would vent to me about her boyfriend and it was mostly harmless. The co-worker said she would go out with me on a date if she didnt have a boyfriend. I told her it was for home defense. The employment issues happened before I signed the lease.
The landlord wouldnt let me out of the lease when I lost the job and it seems unfair because I moved only for work and this is a very small town and I'm very far from home. I'm from NY. I'm an accountant.
