I lost my job two weeks after relocating for work. The employer referred me to my landlord. Both were of the understanding that I was relocating for work. My employer posted the same title of my job in an employment ad the 1st of the month.

Is this illegal? Can my employer and landlord work together to secure me under a lease and then the employer fire me? I should mention that things went down hill at work when I told a co-worker I had purchased a gun. She told me I couldn't talk to that employee anymore. There were some problems with me getting to close to her but the co-worker would vent to me about her boyfriend and it was mostly harmless. The co-worker said she would go out with me on a date if she didnt have a boyfriend. I told her it was for home defense. The employment issues happened before I signed the lease.

The landlord wouldnt let me out of the lease when I lost the job and it seems unfair because I moved only for work and this is a very small town and I'm very far from home. I'm from NY. I'm an accountant.

Co-worker

The co-worker even said it was just because she didn't want to lose her job that she couldn't talk to me at work later on after the day I told her about the gun. Is it illegal for my employer to fire me because of buying a gun?

It's becoming more and more clear why your employer fired you - and it wasn't for buying a gun.

No. it is not illegal for your employer to fire you two weeks after you relocated for work. It is not illegal to fire you on the day you signed a lease the employer helped you find. It is not illegal for your employer to post your job on that same day.

You weren't fired for buying a gun, and the LL and employer weren't in collusion to ruin your life.

You have poor social skills and were exhibiting behavior that could result in complaints of sexual harassment and/or hostile work environment at the very least. There was no reason to talk about your gun. Then again, there was no reason to get physically too close to your co worker.

Have you been diagnosed with a spectrum disorder?

Thank you

Well, if I was causing such a problem then why did the boss have me move in next door.

Her and the landlord have business dealings and I think it's unethical at the least. They both knew I was moving for the job.

I can talk about a gun on a break there is nothing wrong with that. My social skills
Have never been the strongest. I had some stuff happen to me when I was younger that makes me keep to myself for the most part.

If you were in my shoes you would be upset to about this whole thing. No I don't have any disorders that Ive been diagnosed with.

I'm not going to sue or anything basically just like to know the law.

No one said you didn't have reason to be upset.

What we said is that nothing illegal occurred. You're allowed to be upset about something that's not illegal.
