What is the name of your state? Florida

My son & his fiance moved to Maryland. She had purchased a wedding dress and paid for it in full, here in Florida before leaving and was unable to pick it up before she left due to the hurricanes. She asked us to pick it up for her. My daughter picked it up gave her ID and signed for it. My son & his fiance has since split. She owes my son's grandfather money and my son money. She is wanting her dress. We told her she can have the dress when she pays the money she owes. Now the store where we picked up the dress is saying my daughter falsely picked up the dress and that if we don't return it they will have her arrested for theft and they will press charges. When she picked up the dress they just gave it to her. No questions asked. What legally can they do to us if we do not return the dress? Can they actually press charges even though they gave her the dress. She gave her name and ID so she didn't falsely pick it up as we were asked to pick it up as well. Please advise. Thank You.

Good Grief!
Holding a wedding dress hostage?
Give her her wedding dress back and worry about the other things later, it appears she got out of your family just in time.

You have no business keeping the dress. The money she owes to Grandpa is a separate issue. He can take her to small claims court to collect.

Does Grandpa like dressing up in white? Geesh!!!!

If she paid for the dress, it belongs to her. Give it back. You cannot hold the dress hostage for other debts. Make sure you have a witness or get something signed from her that she has the dress, or she will probably try to pull a fast one.

Whoever else she owes money to should take her to small claims court.
