What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NJ

i was pulled over due to "Failure to yeild to Ped." officer took my Ins. DL. and car Reg. Returned to me with a ticket, and gave me my cards except my Reg. card.... so my question is: Do i have the right to file a complaint on this officer for loosing my Reg. card? It is not fair that i not only pay for the ticket, and get points on my Lic., but i have to get a new Reg Card too, due to this irresponsible officer.

What did he say when you asked him where it was? Did he say he lost it? It blew out of his hand? What?

he gave me the cards and ran, when i realized that i don't have my Reg Card, he was already gone, (which took about 2 sec), I went to the station a day after, He was not available, they try to look for it in his truck, with no luck. they then told me to check back after 3 pm, when He arrives. They also took my cell number for him to call me, but he never called yet. that was about 3 hours ago. When they called him, he said that he gave it to me.... which is BS... i dont have it.

He might have dropped it in his car, so keep trying to contact him. If he lost it, you can request reimbursement from the department. A duplicate should not be that much. Did you check? What, 10 bucks or so?

this is not the case... i am very upset with this, and i want to file a complaint against him for loosing my Reg Card... if he can give me a ticket for a mistake that i did not do on purpose, then I believe that i have the right to do the same, by filing a complaint... what do you suggest?

Besides, wasting my time and money with getting another registration, or even if i get pulled over now without a registration i will get another ticket for not having it.

Sure - go in and file a complaint. Of course, you'll STILL need to get a duplicate registration card

You can file a complaint with his supervisor's/department, yes, then see what happens.

i don't know what that will accomplish.. but maybe it will work against his promotion, or even getting him fired if he gets enough complaints....

Irresponsible and imature officers are incompetent and should not be on the force.

Oh BROTHER! The guy misplaced a relatively small piece of paper. Get a life.

My life is to protect my degnity.... If some AH cop gives you a violation for something you didn't do on purpose... I think He should GET A LIFE.... But if you don't care about your degnity... then yeah, bend over and take it like a man.... I certainly did not serve in the US millitary to be treated this way..

Intent is not an element for the offense that you were cited for. In the future, be more diligent.

I am truly ashamed to see someone trying to use their military service as a way to avoid the consequences for their own actions.

You can file a complaint. The officer's supervisor will ask the officer about it and will counsel him on losing such documents in the future (assuming the officer admits that he might have lost it). It will not result in termination or any major problem for the officer unless he is involved in one tiny screw up after another.

You can also submit a claim (generally with a receipt or estimate) for the replacement cost of the proof of insurance document. Since these can often be printed from your home computer, the cost might be as low as ... what? 8 cents? If not, then get an estimate from your insurer as to the replacement cost of the insurance card. If the city refuses to pay on your claim, you can take them to small claims court ... paying a fee that will be worth far more than the value of the document.

If the officer lost it, bad for him and a phone call or letter to the supervisor agency head should be sufficient. If this is worth more to you in time and money, then maybe you have too much of both.

As previous stated, the individual is free to file a complaint against this police officer.

Fast forward several months or a year ..... this person who filed the complaint is driving through the same area and gets pulled over on a traffic stop and guess who the officer is ****************************....

I'm not saying this cop is vindictive or anything but s/he IS another imperfect human. As also stated previously, life isn't always fair and other people make mistakes just like you did by not checking for all your documents when they were returned to you during that incident.

Get over it! Get a replacement document & get on with life.
