What is the name of your state?NY I have been out of work on a personal disability and work injury for almost 2yrs now. For the past 6 months I have been unable to pay on my credit cards and I have recieved a notice that one of the creditors is trying to put a lien on my fathers house. At the advise of his lawyer 4 years ago he did a quit claim deed and added me to the deed. I do not own this house, I only get this house when my father passes away. Can this be done? My father is the only borrower on the mortgage. I have looked into filing bankruptcy with my local legal aid and am waiting for their answer if they can help me or not. I still have to come up with the $209 to file, imagine that, I can't pay my bills, through no fault of my own and I have to pay to not have to pay. I feel terrible about this whole thing and I used all my savings to continue paying up untill 6 months ago when my savings went dry. I have 3 children and am a single parent and what little money I get from workers comp feeds my children. W/C keeps fighting me and stalling on authorizing my surgeries and sending me for IME's. This whole proscess is terrible. Can anyone help with some advise? Thanks :( :(

This is why parents should not place offspring on deeds or make them coowner of any other property. You and your father need to see a lawyer now!

what is a lawyer going to do for us now?? :(

Help you navigate this maelstrom. Find someone who is well versed in estate planning, elder law and bankruptcy law. A tall building firm looking to do a bit of pro bono work might be a good bet, and a bar association referral service can probably help you find one if legal aid can't.
