OK new twist....

So, our LL decided NOT to let her out of the remander of the lease (4mo) but instead "added" our replacement roommate. My question being can we sue her for her portion of those 4mo?

I dont' know that what your LL did was legal. He is not allowed to both get a replacement AND keep the old roomie responsible. If you paid her portion of the rent, then, yes, you can ask for repayment through the small claims process.
