What is the name of your state? Arizona

I have sole custody of my 2 children. Do I have to give my ex a copy of my kids health insurance card? If so, how do I avoid being stuck for the bills when she takes them to the ER for non-emergencies?

Any advise would be appreciated.

if you have sole custody she doesn't have the right to see them unless you asked for visitations rights for her .no you don't have to give her a copy of your health insurance cards. she can put them on her insurance too,if she has any. then she will get stuck with the bill.

I have sole LEGAL custody. She has very restrictive visitation. The real question is... does she have the legal right to authorize medical care.

NOT SO...Sole custody means that only one parent has the final say in decision making for the children such as education, health and religion. Sole custody has nothing to do w/ visitation rights.

Is there a reason you don't want to give her a copy of your insurance card? You could probably obtain an extra one through the ins co to send w/ your children at least when they go on visits to ensure ins pymt in case they need to see a doctor or go to ER. Otherwise, maybe you should insist upon mom calling you in this event so you could meet her wherever to provide the card to their dr or ER. Since you have sole custody she would have to notify you in case of an emergency anyhow since it is now your responsibility to make important medical decisions.

If it were a true life threatening emergency the Hospital would treat with or without the insurance information. My guess is that the person with sole custody doesn't want to receive any undo medical bills .

This is true that treatment would not be denied w/out such information. Providing that you don't procrastinate, a medical facility would more than likely accept insurance information after treatment. I understand not wanting to receive undo medical bills, which is why I asked if there was a reason you did not want to send the cards, at least w/ the kids during visitation.

Also, NCP would be in contempt if she did not notify you in the event of a life threatening emergency based upon you being the SCP, hence not giving you the opportunity to make important medical decisions.

How can they bill you without your signature requesting treatment for a minor child & guaranteeing payment? Simply put, they can’t.
