What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? DC

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what happens to your points/convictions when you get a ticket in a different state than you're a resident in? I got a reckless driving ticket in VA last year, which is 6 points. In CA (where I'm a resident and will be moving back to in the next year) the conviction is 2 points. So, will it show up on my CA record as 6 points or as 2?
Also, does anyone know if insurance companies look at your conviction or the number of points you have when calculating your premium? I can knock off points by going to traffic school and not getting any tickets (I believe in VA, it's an additional point every year for not getting any tickets, not sure about other states), but that would all be fruitless if the companies are only looking at the conviction and not your total points. I know that a reckless driving charge greatly increases your premiums and I'm wondering what, if anything can be done to lower them before I move back to cali and have to get a car. I don't own one now and have never dealt with insurance before, so I'm just trying to figure all this out.
Thanks for any insight.
